Henna Brew Recipe for a Darker Stain
The brew is the liquid you mix with your henna powder, and it shapes everything: the depth of the stain, the dye release, the texture of the paste and how it flows from the cone. Here is how we make it at Sun Henna.
Start with an acidic base. Fresh lemon juice helps release lawsone, the natural dye in henna leaves. Orange or grapefruit juice also work.
Sweeten it with dates. We use dates, not white sugar: their natural sugar keeps the paste smooth and helps it hold to the skin.
Add an enhancer if you like. Black tea or red wine bring tannins for a deeper stain, ground coffee a warmer colour, a small pinch of clove a stronger release, chamomile a smoother paste, beet powder red tones.
Steep, never boil. Warm everything gently over low heat, then strain and let it cool to room temperature.
Mix with your powder: 80 to 100 ml of brew for every 25 g of henna powder.
Start simple, change one ingredient at a time, and photograph your stain after 48 hours. That is how every artist finds a signature brew.
Recette d'infusion pour le henné. Jus de citron frais, dattes et, au choix, thé noir ou clou de girofle pour un henné plus foncé. À infuser sans faire bouillir.
