A week before the Eclipse Festival in Quebec, Becca stopped by with a special request. She wanted a large, detailed henna tattoo across her back—something bold enough to stand out during the three-day outdoor gathering, where art, music, and self-expression come together. Since I already knew a bit about her style, I was excited. Becca has always gravitated toward organic, whimsical elements: flowing florals, delicate leaves, dotted accents, and of course, her beloved mushrooms.
To begin, I gently marked the center of her back and divided it into two symmetrical halves. This would help guide the composition and create a natural sense of balance. Down the middle, I designed a helix-style vine that spiraled upward, adding movement and softness to the structure. Sitting at the top of the vine, I incorporated an Aries symbol—the sign of the Ram—chosen for its boldness and meaning in Becca's life. It became the focal point that grounded the entire piece.
Once the central shape was in place, I moved to the lower back area and began sketching a lotus flower. Lotuses are powerful symbols of growth and resilience, and they add an elegant touch to any henna design. As the petals formed, the lotus naturally expanded, so I added larger leaves to give it depth and harmony with the rest of the composition.
By the end of the session, Becca’s back was transformed into a flowing, organic tapestry of symbols and shapes—exactly what she wanted to show off at Eclipse Festival.
